  4. Adapter Fault Tolerance installation notes for the
  5. EtherExpress(TM) PRO/100+ adapter under Windows NT 4.0
  6. ============================================================

  8. Overview
  9. --------
  10. Adapter Fault Tolerance provides link redundancy for two
  11. EtherExpress PRO/100+ adapters.  When configured, there becomes 
  12. a primary and secondary PRO/100+ adapter.  If the primary loses 
  13. communication with the hub/switch, the secondary automatically 
  14. takes over.  The secondary adapter will take over for such 
  15. reasons as cable connection problems, switch or hub port
  16. failure or adapter failure.  For more information on adapter
  17. fault tolerance please see the readme file AFT.TXT.

  21. Before you get started
  22. ----------------------

  24. Before you can configure the PRO/100+ adapter for Adapter Fault 
  25. Tolerance, you need to do the following:
  26.       
  27.       Install two PRO/100+ adapters in a Windows NT 4.0
  28.       system as described in the readme file MSNT40.TXT. When
  29.       installation is complete make sure you restart NT.
  30.       
  31.       If connecting to a hub, each PRO/100+ adapter in a team 
  32.       will need to be connected to a separate port, which is
  33.       in the same collision domain.  If connected to a switch,
  34.       each PRO/100+ adapter in a team will have to be connected 
  35.       to a separate port which is in the same network.

  38. General Instructions
  39. --------------------

  41. 1. Double-click on the Network Icon in the Control Panel.
  42.  
  43. 2. Select the Adapter tab and double-click the "Intel
  44.    EtherExpress PRO/100+ PCI Adapter" found in the Network
  45.    Adapters list box.  This will launch the Intel PROSet utility.
  46.  
  47. 3. Click on the Fault Tolerance button.
  48.  
  49. 4. The Intel Adapter Fault Tolerance dialog box appears.  Click
  50.    OK to continue. Adapter Fault Tolerance will automatically be
  51.    installed.
  52.  
  53. 5. To complete the configuration and installation, you will need
  54.    to click the Close button in the Network dialog box.  This
  55.    will update the bindings and allow you to assign the adapters
  56.    to an Adapter Fault Tolerance team.

  58. 6. The dialog box Intel Adapter Fault Tolerance Configuration
  59.    Manager is displayed during the binding process after the
  60.    Close button is clicked.  Follow the directions on the screen
  61.    to assign PRO/100+ adapters to the Fault Tolerance team.
  62.    When done click OK to continue.

  64.       Note: If you are creating more than one Adapter Fault
  65.             Tolerance team, do not restart NT until all teams are
  66.             created.

  68. 7. To add additional Adapter Fault Tolerance teams, repeat this 
  69.    process starting at step 1.

  75. Launching the Configuration Manager:
  76.    
  77.    To launch the Intel Adapter Fault Tolerance Configuration
  78.    Manager, select the Adapters tab in the Network dialog box.
  79.    Highlight the Intel Adapter Fault Tolerance Team and select
  80.    Properties.

  82. Identifying the Properties of the Intel Adapter Fault Tolerance

  85.    In the Intel Adapter Fault Tolerance Configuration Manager,
  86.    highlight the Intel Adapter Fault Tolerance team and click
  87.    Properties.  See Help for more detailed information about the

  94.    highlight the PRO/100+ adapter and click Properties.
